Activities at Mountain Landing

The Residences at Mountain Landing offer the ultimate luxury New Zealand beach holiday. The prime Bay of Islands location allows easy access to a wide range of watersports, including sport fishing, diving and sailing, as well as many other activities. All are set against the backdrop of New Zealand’s magnificent coastal scenery.The Bay of Islands is famous for its impressive game fish, including marlin, tuna and shark. Renowned fishing and diving spots include the nearby Cavalli Islands and the more remote Three Kings Islands. The area also offers spectacular snorkelling and scuba diving, including wreck diving and diving in season for scallops and crayfish.

The Residences hospitality team offers a full concierge service and can arrange all activities, trips, personal tours and events as required. Our private helicopter will be at your disposal throughout your stay.

Fishing and dive charters

Mountain Landing’s resident 28-foot rigid hull inflatable, Protector, can be booked for skippered half and full day fishing and sightseeing trips.

In addition, charter sport fishing boat Libertas II is based at nearby Opua Marina every summer from January to April and is available for priority use by Residences guests.

The 60-foot Libertas II is New Zealand’s most luxurious sport fisher, fully equipped with top-of-the-line fishing and navigation equipment. She is available to charter for sightseeing, fishing and diving trips, and sleeps four guests for overnight excursions.

When Libertas II is not in residence, other sport fishing boats can be chartered from the nearby towns of Russell and Paihia.

Other watersports

The Bay of Islands and wider Northland region are excellent locations for sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, surfing and a wide range of other watersports. Many of these can be enjoyed directly from Mountain Landing.

Mountain Landing has its own boat ramp and deep-water jetty, wash-down facilities and fish-cleaning area. Guests’ own boats can be provisioned and valeted as required.

Family and surf beaches

The six private beaches at Mountain Landing can be accessed for safe boating and swimming at all tides, making it ideal for family beach holidays.

Hundreds of other beautiful beaches are also within easy reach of Mountain Landing. These range from quiet, secluded white-sand bays accessible only by boat to wild west coast surf beaches a short helicopter flight away.

New Zealand’s best golf

Kauri Cliffs, one of the world’s greatest golf courses, is just 40 minutes by car or five minutes by helicopter from Mountain Landing.

Many other fine golf courses also located in the region, including the famous course at Waitangi and the PGA tournament-quality Carrington course on the Karikari Peninsula

Hiking and mountain biking

Guests of The Residences have unrestricted access to the entire thousand-acre Mountain Landing property. It is crossed with a network of boardwalks, walking trails and mountain bike tracks, leading through native bush reserves, wetland areas, farm paddocks and along the coast.

This is an excellent way to explore Mountain Landing, taking in magnificent rural and sea views and many sites of natural and heritage interest.

Spas and family holiday activities

Top-end luxury spa facilities and restaurants are available close by at Paihia and Kauri Cliffs. A wide range of Northland family holiday activities are also within an hour’s helicopter flight, including kiwi-spotting night walks, glow-worm caves and the ancient kauri forests at Hokianga.

Between November and April, whale watching and swimming with dolphins from nearby Paihia and Russell are also popular day trips.
